Fairview Dryland Traverse Stage 1 and 2

Stage 1:

Robert Rorich surprised the field of experienced Fairview Dryland Traverse runners to cross the line first on Stage 1 of the four day adventure trail run, on Friday 4 November. The first men’s team across the line were the Team 1 duo of John April and Francois Maquassa, while South African trail running superstars Landie and Christiaan Greyling claimed victory in the mixed category and Chantel Neinaber and Katja Sogot were the first of the women’s teams to finish.

Trail Du Mont Rochelle

Nov 12th 2016 will see the 3rd running of the Trail du Mont Rochelle. This year’s edition will have various trail options incl a short 5km run, and the more challenging 18km & 25km events. Included in 2016 is a relay option for the 25km route. If running 25km solo on these technical trails in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve seems to daunting, why not share the load with a friend?

Paarl will host South Africa’s first FISHERMAN’S FRIEND StrongmanRun, the world’s biggest cross-country obstacle race, on Saturday 1 October 2016.  This is the first time this event, known as the ‘strongest race of all time’ will be held outside of Europe.

This rapidly growing cross-country-obstacle-race set on a long distance track including swimming, climbing and crawling obstacles.  Paarl Rock, the country’s largest recorded mass of granite and the picturesque Berg River are the location, and will add to the challenge and scenic beauty for this one-of-a-kind event.

The South African Ultra Trail Running Championships is one of the highlights on the national calendar and this year's event will be even more special than before because, apart from probably the strongest field ever, it will also be the final and most critical race to be used for the selection of two separate national teams to two international championships in October.  This year is of particular importance since the dates for the two international races are only a week apart which means that two different teams will have to be selected since no runner will be able to run both races.

2016 South African Ultra trail running Championships

It’s almost time for the 2016 South African Ultra trail running Championships and by the looks of it; it’s going to be something special!

Apart from the honour of being the South African trail running champion, those taking part will also run for a place in the national trail running teams that will take part in the IAU World Trail Championships in Portugal, as well as an international race in France, both in October.

Put this in your calendar - Attakwas Trail

Launched in 2015 the Attakwas Trail is a rugged trail run which explores a region time forgot and the 2016 running will take place on Saturday the 17th of December. It features untouched landscapes, an echoing kloof which tugs at the essence of your South African soul and signs of our intrepid ancestors who once used the Attakwaskloof to traverse from the interior to the coast with the fruits of their labour. There are 29km and 7.5km distances on offer both boasting the famously well-stocked Dryland water points complete with 32Gi nutritional supplements.
