The Organisers of the eagerly awaited inaugural Augrabies Falls Klipspringer Challenge, SANParks and the management of the Augrabies Falls National Park are pleased to announce, due to overwhelming demand, the introduction of the shorter Klipspringer Lite 17km Trail Run on Race Day 1 May 2016. Ultra-Trail Cape Town Legends Return in 2016

It was once believed that Table Mountain was the physical manifestation of the Roman god Janus. This guy was considered to be a gatekeeper; one that facilitated new beginnings and transitions. Alternatively, a Xhosa folktale has the powerful god Qamata in conflict with a sea dragon called Nkanyamba and their battle resulting in Qamata’s mother creating four stone giants to watch over the world. Umlindi Wemingizimu (Watcher of the South), more commonly known as Table Mountain, took the southernmost point.

South African Team performs at Festival des Templiers

A new chapter was written in South African Trail Running when, for the first time, a race invited some of the South African athletes to compete in an international team competition. A sponsorship from Old Mutual meant that all the expenses of the team were paid, the runners were specially kitted out for the tour, and a dedicated media representative could accompany the team. With Nick Bester as manager, the athletes left South Africa on Tuesday 20 October. Team Old Mutual SA were housed in chalets a mere 200m from the finish line where they prepared for Sunday's big race.

Sub 4 Otter 2015

In 2013, UK’s Ricky Lightfoot stood on the Otter podium and told race director Mark Collins that on the right day, with the right mix of athletes, a sub-4 hour Otter would be possible. Mark placed R100 000 on the table and said, “Impossible”. In 2015, impossible became a reality as a trail running moment in history unfolded.

Magnetic South and the OTTER

With The Grail of Trail looming, we thought fit to post an article just giving readers some more information on this epic Trail Run.

The concept of the OTTER African Trail Run was the collective brainchild of brothers John and Mark Collins from the event organising company Magnetic South. Both brothers’ passions lie in adventure sports as well as wildlife conservancy. Ultra Trail CT Official Results and Report

On Saturday 3 October 600 runners made up of 32 nationalities lined up to run either the 20km, 65km or 100km course from Gardens Tech Rugby grounds in Cape Town. Table Mountain hid beneath a thick white mist, and 6 hours of solid, icy rain played havoc with the nutrition and hydration plans of the runners. The brave stepped up, and ran out, lead by race organisers Nic Bornman, Stuart McConnachie and a dramatic red flare.
