Domination by Calitz and Consistency by Munnik on Stage 2 of the Tankwa Trail

AJ Calitz extended his lead over young Endi Angelo Pegado with a dominant run, leading from start to finish, on stage two of the 2017 Tankwa Trail. In the women’s race the exertions of the previous weekend’s Momentum Health Tankwa Trek, presented by Biogen, saw Yolande de Villiers lose the general classification lead to Alana Jane Munnik.

Calitz and De Villiers Win the Opening Stage of the Tankwa Trail

South African trail running superstar, AJ Calitz and long-time Dryland Event Management event competitor, Yolande de Villiers opened their Tankwa Trail campaigns with stage victories on stage one on Friday the 17th of February. The thirty-two kilometre stage took in the Kaleo singletracks as it wound its way around the rocky koppies which dot the Koue Bokkeveld landscape and provided challenging conditions, especially as the day heated up.

Trail Runners to Tackle the Iconic Mountain Stage in the Tankwa Trail

The ancient rock formations of the Kouebokkeveld and the orchard lined Witzenberg Valley will play host to the second Tankwa Trail, trail running stage race, from the 17th to the 19th of February 2017. Runners will be treated to three days of superb trail running, old-fashioned platteland hospitality, hearty and healthy catering, an oasis like race village, and a mystery mountain stage.

Fairview Dryland Traverse Stage 3

The short, 11km, final stage of the 2016 Fairview Dryland Traverse was wrapped up by rising trail running star Robert Rorich as he ran to stage and general classification victory in the solo men’s race. The leading men’s team of John April and Francois Maquassa finished just behind Rorich to secure their fourth category stage victory of the race and secure the most prestigious title of the Fairview Dryland Traverse. The ladies title was won by the Fairview Fairies duo of Chantel Nienaber and Katja Sogot, while Danette Smith won the solo women’s race.

Fairview Dryland Traverse Stage 1 and 2

Stage 1:

Robert Rorich surprised the field of experienced Fairview Dryland Traverse runners to cross the line first on Stage 1 of the four day adventure trail run, on Friday 4 November. The first men’s team across the line were the Team 1 duo of John April and Francois Maquassa, while South African trail running superstars Landie and Christiaan Greyling claimed victory in the mixed category and Chantel Neinaber and Katja Sogot were the first of the women’s teams to finish.
